2010-11 Message
Welcome to Wisconsin Family and Consumer Educators! Here in Wisconsin we pride ourselves in having this organization whose single focus is best practices in Family and Consumer Sciences education. WFCE has an Executive Board, twelve Representatives throughout the state, and Liaisons from the Department of Public Instruction and Universities that work toward connecting all WI FACS educators into this professional network. The WFCE network communicates up-to-date information and resources to assist FACS Departments across the state in maintaining quality programs. Wisconsin Family and Consumer Sciences educators in turn work toward preparing students for family work, work life, and careers in Family and Consumer Sciences and empower individuals and families to manage the challenges of living and working in our diverse global society.
FACS education is a division of Career and Technology Education (CTE). Family,
Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is our national student
organization (CTSO) that helps young men and women become leaders and address
important personal, family, work and societal issues through Family and
Consumer Sciences education. FCCLA is the largest student organization in
the United States with nearly 7,000 chapters from 50 state associations
and the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. Participation
in national programs and chapter activities helps members become strong
leaders in their families, careers and communities.
The National Standards for Family and Consumer Sciences education adds alignment
with FCCLA programs, Career Clusters, and 21st Century Skills. This Career
and Technical Education focuses on exploration of the self in relation to
the world of work. FACS students discover their interests, talents, abilities,
and the niches where their talents and abilities might best be used. FACS
education better prepares students for all post-high school opportunities.
Whether moving on to further education, training or employment, this planning
and preparation leads to a realistic individualized career plan which is
compatible with the student's abilities, aptitudes and interests.
Skills Certificates Programs offered in Family and Consumer Sciences education include General Employability, Child Services, Food Services, and Youth Leadership which represent accomplishments achieved in work based learning courses such as FCE cooperative education classroom, Prostart Food Service program, Assistant Child Care Teacher, Infant Toddler, Child Care Teacher, or any work based learning course. The classroom instruction is linked to relevant, structured, real-world experiences where students learn from business and industry leaders. The workplace and classroom learning is applied directly to the future role as family member, worker, and citizen. Students leave school better prepared and more focused about their future and education choices. The WFCE Foundation partners with business and industry to support these programs.
